Finance Assistant 3 Month FTC St Albans Salary: £25-30k FTE
Loom Talent is supporting a well-established education group in Hertfordshire in their search for an experienced Finance Assistant to join the Finance Team ahead of a busy year-end audit period.
This is a great opportunity for a finance professional with independent school sector experience to step straight in and make an immediate impact with potential scope for the role to evolve as the finance department continues to develop.
About the role
Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, you'll provide hands-on support across balance sheet reconciliations, month-end processes, and day-to-day finance operations, helping the team prepare for year-end audit fieldwork.
What you'll be doing
- Supporting month-end and year-end accounting processes
- Preparing and reconciling balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets, prepayments, and fees in advance
- Investigating and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner
- Assisting with bank reconciliations, journals, and general ledger maintenance
- Supporting purchase ledger, sales ledger, and cashbook activities as required
- Assisting with audit preparation and providing supporting information to auditors

What we're looking for
- Previous experience within the independent school sector
- Proven experience with balance sheet reconciliations
- A good understanding of month-end accounting processes
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to hit the ground running
Experience with PASS (or similar pupil/fee finance software) is a plus but not essential. Candidates with the right experience and no PASS background will still be considered. Experience supporting year-end audits, fee accounting, or working within a charitable/educational environment would also be a bonus.

- 📍 St Albans, Hertfordshire predominantly office-based
- ⏳ 3 month fixed-term contract (potential to extend)
- 🕘 Full-time, 37 hours/week
- 📅 Start date: 1st September/ ASAP
