How you'll make a difference

As a Finance Assistant, you will play a key role in delivering comprehensive financial and data processing services to the Finance team. Working closely with colleagues, you will help deliver strategic advice and operational financial services that support council departments in achieving their objectives.

What you will be doing

It will be your responsibility to provide advice and respond to customer enquiries, ensuring individuals receive clear and accurate guidance on relevant policies, procedures and processes.

  • To support the efficient delivery of services, you will maintain and update information systems and databases, ensuring records are accurate and service transactions are completed correctly.
  • You will process goods receipts for invoices across the SEND service, raise purchase orders, and provide accurate information to support the timely establishment of provisions and payment processes.
  • A key aspect of the role will be ensuring that information arising from weekly SEND panels is accurately recorded, communicated, and actioned in a timely manner. This will involve maintaining high-quality records and supporting the effective delivery of services across the team.
  • You will undertake a range of administrative and project-related tasks, including compiling reports, carrying out research, collating and analysing data, presenting information, and maintaining accurate budget records. Your work will provide valuable support to colleagues and help inform effective decision-making.

What we need from you

It is essential you have relevant experience of working in a finance or business support environment that delivers a range of financial and data processing services, including the processing of invoices and the use of financial systems.

  • You will be able to analyse and interpret information from a variety of sources, using sound judgement to make informed decisions and resolve issues effectively.
  • We are looking for someone who has strong interpersonal and communication skills, as you will work with and provide support to a wide range of customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • You will have a good understanding of financial processes and proven experience of using IT systems and software within a finance environment to maintain accurate records and support service delivery.
  • Knowledge of D365 and CIVICA Financials would be advantageous, although not essential.

What you need to know

This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Badminton Road, Yate, and working from home. In-person interviews will be held on 13th and 14th October 2026.
