Finance Assistant

Department: Finance

Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Zinc - London
Reporting To: Michael Omoregbee
Compensation: £35,000 - £40,000 / year

Description

Zinc is growing fast, and our finance operations need to keep pace. Right now, day-to-day AP/AR, mailbox management, and debt chasing sit with our Ops Analysts — brilliant generalists, but not finance specialists, and it's pulling them away from the work they're best at.

We're hiring a Finance Assistant 🧾 to take full ownership of this. You'll be the person who keeps invoices moving, mailboxes clear, and debtors chased, turning a process that currently takes days into one that takes hours. It's a hands-on, detail-heavy role to start, working closely with our Senior Finance Manager, with a genuine path into a broader finance career for the right person.

Key Responsibilities 🗝️

  • Own the shared Finance Mailbox, responding to and resolving queries daily 📩
  • Handle daily AM-Ops requests, acting as the finance point of contact for the Account Management team
  • Manage subscription creation and billing setup on a weekly basis
  • Run weekly reconciliations across accounts
  • Own debt chasing, working proactively to keep debtor days down
  • Deliver the monthly invoicing cycle and manage overages
  • Owning accounts payable end-to-end — processing supplier invoices, raising payment runs, and ensuring correct coding, approvals, and timely payment
  • Help close the books to a tight cadence: OPEX by WD1, revenue by WD3 🧾
  • Assisting with VAT returns and other routine statutory and compliance filings
  • Use Zinc's tools (Xero, HubSpot, Stripe, Sigma) day-to-day — and lean on AI tools like Claude to work efficiently, rather than defaulting to manual spreadsheet work 💻

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
