We are looking for a Finance Assistant to join the finance team of an established law firm in Sunderland.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with some finance or bookkeeping experience who is looking to develop their career within a professional services environment. The successful candidate will receive support and training, with the opportunity to work towards Level 4 AAT and progress towards a management-level position over time.
The Role
Working as part of the finance team, you will provide accurate and timely support across a range of day-to-day finance functions, including:
- Processing supplier invoices, credit notes, and payments
- Managing accounts payable and receivable
- Allocating receipts and maintaining accurate debtor records
- Assisting with credit control and resolving billing queries
- Processing bank transactions and completing bank reconciliations
- Processing staff expenses and maintaining petty cash records
- Assisting with VAT coding and financial reporting
- Maintaining accurate accounting records using Xero and LEAP
- Supporting the finance team with general administration and financial queries
- Ensuring financial records are maintained accurately and confidentially
- Assisting with processes relating to SRA Accounts Rules and financial compliance
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes and efficiency

You Will Ideally Have
- Some experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Bookkeeping or similar role
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A professional, proactive, and confidential approach
