Finance Assistant – 3 Month Contract
Location: The Crescent, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 4DY
Rate: £17.24 per hour
Contract: 3 Month Contract
Hours: Full Time
Working Pattern: Hybrid Working (Minimum 1 Day per Week in the Office)
Pay: Bi-weekly
Summary
Somerset Council's Finance & Procurement Directorate is seeking a dedicated Finance Assistant for a temporary three-month position. This role is ideal for finance professionals with a background in transactional finance, purchase orders, invoice management, and financial administration. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting Children's Services by ensuring precise financial processing, addressing queries, maintaining records, and aiding in budget monitoring efforts.
Responsibilities
- Create and oversee purchase orders.
- Handle invoice processing and address supplier inquiries.
- Keep accurate financial records and documentation.
- Assist in budget monitoring and financial reporting tasks.
- Serve as a primary contact for finance-related questions from Children's Services.
- Aid budget holders in navigating financial management systems.
- Ensure adherence to Financial Regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Analyze and extract financial data from management systems.
- Provide financial information and reporting support to Business Partners.
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives and various finance projects.
- Foster positive relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders.

Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in finance, accounts, or financial administration roles.
- Proficiency in processing purchase orders and invoices.
- Competence in maintaining financial records and systems.
- Strong numerical and analytical capabilities.
- Proficient IT skills, particularly with finance or data systems.
- Keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Capability to organize workloads and adhere to deadlines.
- Solid educational background, including proficiency in Maths and English.
Desirable Requirements

- Experience in Local Government or the Public Sector.
- Familiarity with local authority financial procedures and regulations.
- Experience in supporting budget monitoring and financial analysis.
- Understanding of Children's Services funding or placement processes.
- AAT Level 2/3 qualification or willingness to pursue it.
- Experience with procurement and supplier management processes.
