Finance Assistant – Accounting Control & Reporting
📍 Canary Wharf, London | 🏢 3 days per week onsite
💷 £45,000–£50,000 | 📅 12-month FTC
About the Role
We’re looking for a Finance Assistant to join a well-established international financial services organisation within its Finance & Operations function. This is a hands-on accounting control and reporting role, ideal for someone with banking experience and a strong understanding of reconciliations, General Ledger accounting, and financial controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform General Ledger and inventory reconciliations
- Monitor and investigate Nostro and suspense accounts
- Follow up on unidentified and legacy customer balances
- Review previous-day P&L and suspense accounting entries
- Investigate failed accounting entries and unmatched transactions
- Monitor FX positions and movements
- Support intrabranch deal netting and loan-sale activity
- Support month-end accounting, accruals, and adjustments
- Assist with management information and financial reporting
- Support financial statement and operational risk reporting
- Liaise with internal and external auditors and maintain audit trails

What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Previous banking experience – MUST HAVE
- 1–3 years' experience in financial control, reconciliations, GL accounting, or a similar finance function
- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and General Ledger accounting
- Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and Pivot Tables
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- ACCA qualified or part-qualified
- Experience with Nostro, suspense, and control accounts
- Understanding of FX accounting/foreign currency positions
