Position: Finance Assistant

Contract: Permanent – Term Time Only

Closing Date: 30th September 2026

Interview Date: 9th October 2026

Job Start Date: ASAP

Salary: £4,606

Hours Per Week: 7hrs per week. To be worked 9am-4:30pm on either Tuesday or Wednesday

Job/Person Summary

We are looking for a Finance Assistant to work alongside the Business Manager in our diverse and unique setting in the heart of Southsea. Ideally, you’ll have a school background but this is not essential. You will work under the direction of the Business Manager to support the day to day finance, personnel administration and organisation administration of the school and nursery. This will include recording daily income, coding purchase card expenditure, processing school milk claims, cross checking income reports against voucher payment reports, running school and nursery census and headcount tasks, preparing banking and reconciling banking transactions and maintaining staff absence records.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have excellent attention to detail
  • be organised and able to prioritise your workload
  • be able to work under pressure and multi-task whilst maintaining accuracy
  • be confident in using IT, especially Microsoft excel and word
  • be able to use your initiative and work independently where appropriate

What are we looking for in an Admin Assistant?

  • someone with grade C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English
  • someone with high standards of both written and spoken literacy
  • someone who is confident in using IT, especially Microsoft Office applications
  • someone with excellent communication skills who can talk confidently with staff, pupils, parents and the wider community
  • someone who is organised and able to prioritise your workload
  • someone who is flexible in working practices and uses their initiative to work independently where appropriate
  • someone who is able to work under pressure and multi-task whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
