Finance Assistant | Cardiff | Hybrid - Up to £30k
Are you an ambitious Finance Assistant / Accounts Assistant looking for a role where you can genuinely make an impact?
We're working with a fast-paced, internationally focused SME based in Cardiff that is restructuring its finance function and looking for a Finance Assistant to join the team at an exciting time of growth and development.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, organised and involved across a broad range of finance activities, rather than being restricted to one area.
The Role
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, ensuring everything runs smoothly and accurately while supporting month-end, reporting and wider business processes.
You'll be trusted to manage your workload independently, with support and training from the Financial Controller.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Managing the finance inbox and responding to internal and external queries
- Processing purchase invoices and preparing supplier payments
- Raising sales invoices and maintaining billing schedules
- Chasing outstanding payments and supporting credit control
- Completing bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
- Processing employee expenses
- Preparing payroll for review and supporting payroll administration
- Maintaining accurate and organised financial records
- Posting journals and preparing month-end reconciliations
- Supporting VAT return preparation
- Assisting with management accounts and supporting schedules
- Maintaining accurate project cost allocations and supporting budget tracking
- Managing compliance processes, including KYC and AML
- Supporting client, sponsor and supplier onboarding
- Assisting with payroll, benefits and wider HR administration
- Helping to improve processes and document finance procedures

What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is reliable, commercially minded and confident managing the day-to-day responsibilities of a busy finance function.
You'll ideally have:
- AAT qualification, studying towards AAT, or equivalent bookkeeping experience
- Previous experience in day-to-day bookkeeping, ideally within an SME
- Good working knowledge of Xero
- Experience with multi-currency transactions and reconciliations
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- The ability to manage your workload independently and meet deadlines
