Finance Assistant

Costain have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Assistant to assist in the smooth running of the Finance and Commercial departments at site. Be the point of contact for the site team on any finance queries that may come to light on a day-to-day basis.

A Finance Assistant will perform a range of administrative and financial tasks to support the finance or accounts team of Area 14 Scheme. They will support the finance department by ensuring the smooth operation of day-to-day financial processes.

Area 14 Maintenance & Response Contract is a Joint Venture between Costain and Jacobs to provide a maintenance and response service for National Highways on the Strategic Road Network in Area 14 which is in the North-East of England. As part of this service Costain Jacobs undertakes cyclical maintenance, reactive maintenance, incident response, severe weather response and minor capital interventions (scheme works).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist the Accounts function with site account tasks as required, to ensure accurate and timely records.
  • Reconcile creditor accounts, fuel charges, purchase cards and other similar administrative support duties.
  • Recording, processing and investigating invoice queries and ensuring a timely resolution.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Inputting cost journals in line with relevant procedures with appropriate approval and communication.
  • Assist accounting team with month-end processes, ensuring accurate recording of costs.
  • Production of cost estimates for the main contract.
  • Subcontract Management including procurement, auditing of defined cost, payments, change management, performance monitoring, monthly meetings, final accounts etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  • Ability to work well under pressure, solving problems in a calm and rational manner and always acting with integrity.
  • Have clear written and oral communication skills.
  • Is a good team player and demonstrates a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Keen to learn and to be challenged.
  • Strong Excel skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of using EnterpriseOne (E1) or other accountancy software.
  • Previous experience in an accounting or accounts assistant position.
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, document and finance management systems).

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Relevant A-Levels or BTech qualifications

Desirable

  • Studying towards an accountancy qualification.
  • Future goal to start studying towards an accountancy qualification.
