Part-Time Finance Assistant £31,000 - £35,000 FTE | 24 Hours per Week | Hybrid Working | East Lothian
Are you an experienced Finance Assistant looking for a part-time opportunity where you can make a real impact within a supportive and professional finance team? This role offers the chance to join a well-established organisation, taking ownership of key finance processes including reconciliations, month-end activities, and transactional finance duties.

The Role
As Finance Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the finance function across transactional finance, reconciliations, month-end processes, and payroll-related accounting activities. This position is well suited to an individual with strong attention to detail and solid experience across control account reconciliations and finance operations.
- Process invoices daily through a dedicated finance inbox.
- Perform bank reconciliations across multiple bank accounts.
- Calculate and post prepayments.
- Prepare payroll and accrual journals.
- Support fortnightly supplier payment runs.
- Complete month-end control account reconciliations including rent, creditors, PAYE/NI and pension accounts.
- Assist with quarterly and month-end accounting processes.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure data integrity.
- Work closely with the wider finance team to support day-to-day operations.
- Identify and investigate discrepancies, ensuring timely resolution.

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an organised and dependable finance professional with strong reconciliation skills and the ability to work independently while maintaining high levels of accuracy.
Mandatory
- Previous experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Assistant Accountant or similar finance role.
- Strong bank and control account reconciliation experience.
- Experience posting journals including accruals and prepayments.
- Good understanding of month-end processes.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work consistently within an agreed working pattern.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to work.
Preferred
- Experience supporting payroll accounting activities.
- Previous exposure to payment runs.
- Experience working within housing, charity, public sector or not-for-profit environments.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience supporting quarterly or monthly management accounts preparation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional seeking a flexible part-time position within a supportive and friendly team environment.
- Salary of £31,000 - £35,000 FTE.
- Part-time position working 24 hours per week across three days.
- Hybrid working arrangement (50% office-based).
- Haddington-based office location.
- Flexibility on working days (Monday to Thursday), with consistency required.
- 40 days annual leave entitlement (pro rata).
- Opportunity to join an established and collaborative organisation.
- Option for temp-to-perm engagement (3-6 months initially).
- Permanent opportunities also considered for exceptional candidates.
