Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Finance Assistant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting daily accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with data entry and analysis. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a dynamic organisation, working with Xerox accounting software. The ideal applicant will have a strong attention to detail, good organisational skills, and familiarity with key accounting tools.

This role is office-based, term time contracts, and family-friendly hours can be offered.

Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Suppliers

  • Process and code supplier invoices, raise purchase orders, and deal with supplier queries.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any discrepancies.

  • Assist with customer invoicing, allocate payments, and reconcile customer accounts.
  • Monitor outstanding invoices and assist with credit control.

Construction & Project Finance

  • Assist with subcontractor accounts, including CIS checks and payments.
  • Support project cost tracking, labour postings, and cost-code accuracy.
  • Assist with applications, valuations, and payment notices where required.

VAT & Financial Compliance

  • Assist with VAT, including the construction domestic reverse charge.
  • Support CIS calculations and returns.

Reconciliations & Expenses

  • Reconcile company credit cards and expenses and investigate discrepancies.
  • Process employee expenses and check supporting documentation.
  • Provide information to the payroll bureau/accountant when required.

Month-End & Reporting

  • Support basic financial reporting and project profitability analysis.
  • Investigate unusual movements or variances.

General Finance Support

  • Manage and respond to finance-related emails.
  • Work closely with suppliers, subcontractors, project managers, and customers.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with accounting software such as Xerox.
  • Good understanding of bookkeeping, VAT, and ideally CIS.
  • Strong data entry skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Analytical skills to interpret financial data and generate reports.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable processes and general accounting principles.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable investigating and resolving discrepancies rather than simply processing transactions.

Salary

£17,000–£20,000 per annum for 3 days per week, depending on experience.
