Finance Business Improvement Leader

Our client is a leading North Sea operator currently recruiting for the position of Finance Business Improvement Leader, based in Aberdeen. This is a staff position and hybrid working options are available.

Responsibilities

Finance Transformation & Improvement

  • Develop, maintain, and deliver a strategic Finance Improvement Roadmap aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Establish governance to monitor delivery of the roadmap, benefits realisation, and resource prioritisation.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise, and automate finance processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across Record to Report, Procure to Pay, Order to Cash, and Financial Planning & Analysis.
  • Benchmark processes against industry best practice and implement sustainable improvements.

ERP Implementation

  • Act as Finance Lead for the implementation of a new ERP platform.
  • Define finance business requirements and future-state operating model.
  • Lead finance process design workshops and approve solution design.
  • Coordinate finance data migration, chart of accounts redesign, and master data governance.
  • Support system configuration, integration testing, user acceptance testing, and cutover planning.
  • Develop finance training materials and lead change management activities to ensure successful adoption.
  • Manage risks, issues, and dependencies relating to the finance workstream.
  • Work closely with IT, implementation partners, and business stakeholders to deliver programme milestones.

Digital Innovation & AI

  • Develop the finance digital transformation agenda, identifying opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and advanced analytics.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and assess their application across finance activities including reporting, forecasting, planning, reconciliations, controls, compliance, and decision support.
  • Partner with IT, Digital, and Data teams to implement AI-enabled solutions that improve productivity, insight, and user experience.
  • Establish governance to ensure AI solutions are implemented responsibly, securely, and in compliance with company policies.
  • Monitor technology trends and recommend innovative solutions that enhance finance capability and support strategic objectives.
  • Promote adoption of digital tools and build AI capability within the finance organisation through training and change management.

Process & Controls

  • Review and redesign end-to-end finance processes.
  • Strengthen financial controls while reducing manual effort.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and audit requirements.
  • Establish KPIs to measure process performance and continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong relationships across Finance, IT, Procurement, Supply Chain, Commercial, and Operations.
  • Present recommendations and project updates to senior leadership and steering committees.
  • Influence stakeholders to adopt new ways of working.

Data & Reporting

  • Improve management information, reporting capability, and data quality.
  • Support implementation of reporting and analytics tools.
  • Promote data governance and consistent financial information across the organisation.

Leadership

  • Lead cross-functional project teams.
  • Coach finance colleagues on continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in finance transformation or business improvement.
  • Experience leading or playing a key role in an ERP implementation (esp. SAP, Oracle).
  • Strong understanding of finance processes and internal controls.
  • Excellent project management and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven experience of process mapping and redesign.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of operating in a large, complex organisation.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI).
  • Formal project management qualification (PRINCE2, Agile, PMP, or equivalent).
