About the role
Do you have a genuine interest in engineering and major infrastructure projects? If so, this is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Finance Business Partner to play a pivotal role in supporting the successful delivery of National Gas' Major Programmes investment portfolio. Working across some of our most significant, high-profile and technically complex engineering projects, you will provide financial insight, analysis and strategic guidance to support investment decisions across a diverse range of programmes. Operating within an established governance framework, you will deliver senior-level challenge, leadership and decision support, influencing outcomes across a complex programme environment and a broad range of stakeholders.
Key accountabilities
- Act as a trusted senior finance partner to Major Programmes project and leadership teams, providing constructive challenge, clear recommendations and financial leadership to support strategic objectives and financial targets.
- Build strong relationships across Major Programmes, proactively engaging stakeholders to understand priorities, shape decisions and support effective resource allocation.
- Lead the finance input into key business decisions, bringing together financial and regulatory considerations and translating complex issues into clear, practical actions.
- Deputise for the Senior Finance Business Partner - Major Programmes where required and lead, allocate work to and support one direct report, including objective setting, performance management, development and recruitment where required.
- Lead and coordinate the development of robust financial plans, budgets and forecasts for Major Programmes investment and capital project delivery.
- Provide forward-looking analysis of financial performance, identifying underlying drivers, risks and opportunities and ensuring these are clearly understood and acted upon by senior stakeholders.
- Apply an understanding of the regulatory framework so plans, forecasts and investment reporting appropriately reflect regulatory allowances, outputs, commitments and performance drivers.
- Prepare and present clear, insightful financial reporting to senior management and key stakeholders, focusing attention on the decisions and actions required.
- Maintain oversight of Major Programmes financial performance, challenging assumptions, driving corrective action and supporting delivery of financial and regulatory outcomes.
- Develop financial models and undertake scenario and sensitivity analysis to support investment decisions, project economics, cost optimisation, risk management and alternative delivery scenarios.

About you
- Fully qualified CIMA, ACCA or ACA with significant post-qualification experience in finance business partnering, programme finance or financial analysis, with a strong track record of operating with senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrable experience of providing constructive challenge, supporting decisions and turning complex financial information into clear recommendations.
- Experience of line managing, supervising or developing an employee, including allocating work, setting objectives and supporting performance and development.
- Ability to move seamlessly between strategic planning and detailed analysis, understanding the links and interactions between the two.
- Confidence operating with ambiguity and making sound judgements where information is incomplete.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the credibility to influence senior financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience supporting major projects or a complex investment environment.

- Understanding of economic regulation or experience working in a regulated business.
- Experience of regulatory investment planning, reporting or performance frameworks.
