Finance Business Partner

Derby (On Site)

High Growth SME Group

£60-65k + bonus + benefits

Eaton Syalon is partnering with an investor backed high growth SME to recruit a hands-on finance business partner who wants to really influence how a business grows — not just report the numbers, but challenge, shape and own them.

If you're a commercially sharp finance professional who thrives in a fast-moving engineering environment and wants genuine proximity to senior leadership decision-making, this could be the role you've been waiting for. As the finance business partner you will act as the Managing Director's right hand on all things financial. This isn't a back-office role — you'll be attending management meetings, challenging commercial proposals, supporting major bids and helping steer the strategic direction of the business.

You'll take full ownership of the finance function — from month-end management accounts and cashflow forecasting, to supporting department heads with project accounting and cost tracking. You'll be the person who makes sure the numbers are not just accurate, but understood and acted upon across the business.

This is a role for someone who brings professional rigour and commercial curiosity in equal measure — someone who sees finance as a lever for growth, not just a compliance function.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
