About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Synchronicity Earth, a global conservation charity working to protect some of the world's most overlooked and threatened species and ecosystems.

Working with more than 130 conservation partners worldwide, Synchronicity Earth takes a long-term, trust-based approach to funding conservation and supporting locally led solutions.

As Finance Business Partner, you'll act as the strategic bridge between Finance and Programmes, building on a business partnering approach that has transformed how the organisation uses financial information. This is not simply a financial accounting role: you'll work closely with budget holders, programme leads and senior colleagues to strengthen planning, improve decision-making and ensure funding is managed thoughtfully across a complex portfolio of programmes and grants.

You'll also lead financial due diligence for grant partners and suppliers, oversee forecasting and variance reporting, improve dashboards and information flow, and manage and develop the Finance Analyst.

What you'll be doing

  • Partnering with programme leads and budget holders to support planning, forecasting, decision-making and effective financial management across multiple programmes and grants.
  • Leading financial due diligence and risk assessments for grant partners, advising programme colleagues and following up recommendations where required.
  • Managing complex and flexible funding arrangements, including programme allocations, funding gaps and long-term financial models.
  • Overseeing monthly programme reporting, budget-versus-actual analysis and commentary for the Leadership Team and Board.
  • Monitoring grant pipelines and ensuring Salesforce and the finance system reconcile, with clear and reliable data across Finance and Programmes.
  • Developing dashboards, reporting tools and more efficient processes to improve visibility, automation and information flow.
  • Supporting cashflow forecasting, including oversight of endowments and subscription redemptions managed through external investment providers.
  • Managing and mentoring the Finance Analyst, helping them develop their technical, analytical and business partnering skills.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

About you

You'll be a qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or bring strong relevant experience, with a genuine emphasis on finance business partnering rather than purely transactional or technical accounting.

You'll be confident working with non-finance colleagues, able to manage several programmes, grants and stakeholder relationships at once, and comfortable challenging or pushing back constructively when needed. You'll combine strong analysis and attention to detail with the ability to see the wider organisational picture.

Experience of grant-making, due diligence, flexible funding, CRM systems or the charity sector would be helpful, but is not essential. More important is a collaborative, pragmatic approach, confidence working autonomously and a real interest in improving systems, reporting and processes.
