Be Their Voice

We are Cafcass – the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service – and we represent children in family court cases in England.

Independently advising the family courts about what is safe for children and in their best interests, we speak up for over 130,000 children every year when the family court makes critical decisions about their futures, ensuring their needs, wishes and feelings are heard.

Watch our video to find out we don’t just listen to children’s voices but we can be their voice.

If our purpose resonates with you, and you share our ambitions for children - exceptional experiences, for every child, everywhere and every time - then if you join us, you will work alongside like-minded people in a diverse, inclusive and supportive organisation.

You will be trusted to work flexibly and independently using outstanding technology (e.g. touchscreen laptops, iPhone, all with first class support, including IT Trainers) with access to substantial resources (e.g. Cafcass Library has over 27,000 resources on social work, child protection and related topics). You will also have opportunities to develop, whatever team you join, wherever you are in the country and at whatever stage you are at in your career.

Whether you join us in one of our social work roles that work directly with children and families or our corporate and business services teams who provide technology, support and expertise, you will have the chance to make a difference for children and families. You can also find out more at www.cafcass.gov.uk/careers.

Responsibilities

While predominantly known for the role Cafcass takes in supporting almost 130,000+ children and young people in family court cases, we also rely on talented, diligent and passionate individuals in our corporate teams that are the engine of our organisation.

We are recruiting for a Finance Business Partner to join us on an initial 12 months fixed-term contract.

If you join us, working alongside the Head of Management Accounts and Senior Finance Business Partners, you will support the delivery of an operational and strategic finance service directly contributing towards effective front line service delivery. This will involve working directly with Senior Managers and other internal and external stakeholders across a range of finance activity including budgeting, forecasting and analysis.

This is an especially exciting time to join us as we continue to expand the Child Focused Courts Model across England with investment from our sponsor body, the Ministry of Justice, which represents the most significant reform of private family law proceedings in a generation.

Let us tell you a bit more about the role…

In terms of what you can expect to be doing as a Finance Business Partner, this is likely to include:

  • Supporting the delivery of an operational and strategic finance service
  • Providing support to budget holders on all financial matters
  • Co-production of monthly forecasting
  • Co-production with budget holders of monthly management accounts including variance and trend analysis
  • Contributing to wider finance strategies
  • Updating processes, policies, and guidance to ensure streamlined and smoother processes

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience and knowledge of finance in an accounting environment
  • Demonstrable experience of working within a financial control framework
  • The ability to operate in a high tempo environment, within a complex organisation.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience of supporting senior managers
  • You will be a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) with a willingness to work towards a CCAB qualification.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
