Finance Business Partner (CAPEX)
Greater Derby area | Hybrid - 2 days per week | Permanent
Are you a commercially minded, qualified finance professional who enjoys using financial insight to influence business decisions? Gleeson are delighted to be supporting a growing, purpose-led organisation on an exclusive basis to find a highly commercial Finance Business Partner (CAPEX) to provide financial oversight and challenge across technology spend and investment.
The Role

- Owning and improving Capex reporting, monitoring spend against budgets and highlighting risks.
- Supporting investment appraisal.
- Supporting Capex prioritisation and ensuring investment delivers expected value.
- Assessing project costs and distinguishing between Capex and Opex.
- Ensuring the appropriate accounting treatment of project costs.
- Partnering with project managers and senior stakeholders to maintain strong financial control.
- Tracking post-investment benefits and value realisation.
- Providing financial modelling, forecasting and commercial analysis to support decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
