Finance Business Partner/Management Accountant – Cost & Reporting

Location: Central London/2 days WFH
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 + study support & disc bonus
Contract: Permanent
Qualification: Part-qualified / Newly Qualified Accountant
Sector: Oil & Gas

The Role

We are looking for a part-qualified or newly qualified Assistant Accountant to join the finance team in a broad cost and management reporting role.

Working closely with budget holders and the wider finance team, you will be responsible for monitoring costs, producing management information, supporting budgeting and forecasting activities, and helping the business understand financial performance against plan.

This would suit an ambitious accountant who has gained hands-on management accounting experience and is looking to develop their commercial finance and business partnering skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track expenditure across multiple cost centres, ensuring costs are accurately recorded and allocated.
  • Prepare regular cost centre reports and analyse actual expenditure against budget and forecast.
  • Investigate and explain cost variances, identifying key drivers and highlighting areas requiring management attention.
  • Work directly with budget holders to review expenditure, understand variances and improve cost control.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Support month-end management accounting activities, including accruals, prepayments and other accounting adjustments.
  • Produce clear and accurate management reports for finance and operational stakeholders.
  • Support the procure-to-pay cycle, including purchase orders, goods receipts and the accurate recording of supplier costs.
  • Review outstanding purchase orders and commitments and ensure these are appropriately reflected within forecasts and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate financial information within SAP.
  • Support continuous improvements to reporting, forecasting and financial control processes.
  • Assist with ad hoc analysis and finance projects as required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For

This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys getting behind the numbers rather than simply producing reports. You should be comfortable challenging and discussing expenditure with budget holders, investigating variances and helping operational teams understand how their decisions affect financial performance.

The position offers a strong opportunity for a developing accountant to gain broader exposure to management accounting, cost control, budgeting, forecasting and business partnering.
