Finance Business Partnering Role
The Finance function in Thames has a broad responsibility from Corporate Finance to Operational and Strategic Business Partnering.
This is a Financial Business Partnering role within the Operations Finance team and reports to the Head of Planning and Reporting (opex) for Waste and Bioresources. The role will business partner the members of the Waste and Bioresources Senior Leadership team and is responsible for the consolidation of performance reporting, forecasting and analysis. The key purpose for the role is to drive optimal performance at the best value for money across both opex and capex investments.
The role will cover operational functions including waste networks, waste treatment, bioresources as well as some support functions. In terms of cost stacks, the role will work across the whole P&L including revenue, employee, power, materials, third party, and capex costs and thus need to become familiar with activity drivers of value.
What you’ll be doing as a Finance Business Partner (Consolidation)
- Ensure that you are sharing and understanding key insight across the financial landscape so that there is one clear understanding of financial performance.
- Produce key monthly reports for the wider Waster Operations business on time and of a high quality, that provide accurate insight to aid decision making.
- Provide insightful analysis that links business performance with financial results and which ensures effective commercial and operational decisions are made.
- Assist with the consolidation of the overall budget and forecast, using modern tools to transform data into insightful reports.
- Work with the business to track financial performance and tease out forward-looking risks and opportunities. Ensuring that these feed into both monthly reporting and budget/forecast discussions as appropriate.
- Support the development of capital investment & Efficiency papers as required by the business.
- Ensure that investment cases have been reviewed and that all key financial information is complete and accurate and is affordable within budget constraints.
- Track and monitor business improvement initiatives for your area (for example efficiencies and Turnaround initiatives), providing robust assurance of claimed benefits.

Base location: Reading - Hybrid
Working pattern: 36 Hours
What You Should Bring To The Role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
- Qualified accountant, CIMA, ACCA, ACA
- Analytical skills
- Presentation skills
- Microsoft products including Excel.
- Information system skills such as SAC or HFM,
- Business partnering, Management Accounting, Project / Capital accounting experience
- Planning and Organisational skills to work effectively with attention to detail
Additional Skills And Experiences Would Be Great To Have/bring
- Experience in large/complex organisations would be helpful.
- Experience on automation / AI tools such as Copilot for finance.
- Experience working with Power BI and SAC would also be helpful.
- Knowledge of SAP would be an advantage.
