Finance Business Partner
Leeds | Hybrid Working (3 Days in Office) | Permanent
Help Shape the Future of Finance at Markel
We're looking for a commercially minded Finance Business Partner to join our growing UK Finance team based in Leeds.
This is not a replacement role. It's a newly created position driven by business growth, increasing complexity and a desire to strengthen the insight, analysis and decision support provided across the UK business. You'll join a small but highly visible team, working directly with the Finance Director and partnering with senior stakeholders across the organisation.
If you're someone who enjoys translating financial data into meaningful business insight, influencing decision-making, and helping a business improve how it uses financial information, this could be a fantastic opportunity.
Why This Role?
This role offers the chance to become a key member of a finance team that is building for the future. You'll have the opportunity to:
- Work closely with the UK Finance Director and Executive partners.
- Influence business decisions through high-quality financial analysis and insight.
- Play a key role in improving management information, reporting and forecasting capabilities.
- Help drive greater use of data, dashboarding and emerging technologies, including AI.
- Join the business during an exciting period of growth and transformation.
- Shape the future structure of the Leeds finance team, with potential progression opportunities as the function expands.
What You'll Be Doing:
As a Finance Business Partner, you'll act as a trusted advisor to collaborators across the business, helping them understand performance, find opportunities, and make informed decisions.
Responsibilities will include:
- Building strong relationships with partners across underwriting, claims, operations and leadership teams.
- Delivering insightful management information and commercial analysis.
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and planning activities.
- Analysing financial performance, trends, risks and opportunities.
- Providing meaningful commentary and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Developing and enhancing management reporting and business dashboards.
- Improving the quality and accessibility of financial information.
- Supporting the ongoing evolution of finance processes, reporting and data capabilities.
- Helping drive more data-led decision making across the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
