Finance Business Partner
At B&M, we're looking for an experienced, commercially sharp Finance Business Partner to own the financial story behind our store operations. You'll be the go-to finance partner for Central and Regional Retail Operations leaders, with direct accountability for the cost drivers that determine store-level profitability, principally store labour hours, shrinkage and repairs & maintenance, across a portfolio of over 750 stores and a combined operational cost base of over £500m.
This is a senior, high-visibility role based at our Support Centre in Speke 4 days a week, with 1 day from home.
You'll present directly to Regional and Operations Directors, run peer-review sessions that hold Regional Managers to account on performance, and act as the finance lead on our store labour model. We're looking for someone who already operates comfortably at this level of challenge and autonomy and can confidently influence key operational decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the finance lead on B&M's store labour model, owning assumptions, validating them against actual trading patterns and recommending changes as the estate and trading environment evolves.
- Analyse the store-level cost base, particularly shrinkage, repairs & maintenance and store hours, to understand key drivers of performance year-on-year and against budget, translating findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Build and maintain store-level benchmarking to compare performance fairly across different store sizes and formats, identifying the drivers of both outperformance and underperformance.
- Partner with Retail Operations, Regional teams and the Profit Protection and Store Efficiency teams, providing robust challenge, insight and influence on commercial and operational decisions.
- Run periodic peer-review sessions with Regional Managers, benchmarking performance across a range of key metrics, including store profitability, and driving accountability for outcomes.
- Build credibility with experienced operational leaders, translating complex financial information into practical business decisions and actions.
- Produce and own weekly and monthly reporting, including KPI dashboards, variance analysis and performance commentary for senior stakeholders.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and reforecasting processes for the store operations cost base, improving forecast accuracy and rigorously challenging key assumptions.
- Present performance insights and recommendations directly to Regional and Operations Directors, contributing to wider Retail leadership reporting as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
