Where you’ll be working
Here in the Finance function, we make sure we spend our customers money wisely, to maximum their benefit. As a function, we are made up of diverse individuals, skills and capabilities that enable us to provide financial partnering services, produce statutory and regulatory reporting, raise wholesale funds & maintain liquidity. We provide lending for social housing, create and deliver a financial plan, manage stress testing requirements, provide and maintain financial systems & technology, and drive the development of our Society Strategy.
Location
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, based at our Swindon head office or London office (the final placement will be London-only).

RESPONSIBILITIES
What you’ll be doing on the Treasury Development Programme
Over three years, you'll develop the technical expertise, commercial awareness and analytical skills needed to build a successful career in Treasury.
Your programme is designed to give you broad exposure across Treasury, helping you understand how data, risk management, financial resilience and financial markets work together to support Nationwide's long-term success.
DATA, ANALYTICS & INNOVATION PLACEMENT (6 MONTHS)
Your Treasury career begins by building the skills that will help shape the future of finance.
You'll join teams focused on data, analytics, automation and AI, learning how technology and insight help Treasury make better decisions. From day one, you'll contribute to live projects, helping create dashboards, improve reporting, automate processes and use data to solve real business challenges.
Along the way, you'll develop practical experience with modern analytical tools while gaining insight into how Treasury uses data across areas such as financial markets, balance sheet management and risk.
By the end of the placement, you'll have delivered meaningful work, built confidence working with stakeholders and developed the mindset to improve how Treasury operates.
BALANCE SHEET RISK & REPORTING PLACEMENT (9 MONTHS)
Having built strong analytical and data skills, you'll move into Treasury's reporting and risk management function.

Here, you'll gain insight into how Nationwide manages key balance sheet risks and maintains the financial strength needed to support millions of customers and members.
You'll gain exposure to liquidity reporting, market risk, capital management, regulatory reporting and governance processes while working alongside subject matter experts across Treasury.
This placement will strengthen your ability to analyse complex information, challenge outcomes, communicate insights and produce reporting that supports important Treasury decisions.
TREASURY STRATEGY, RESILIENCE & SUSTAINABILITY PLACEMENT (9 MONTHS)
Your third placement will broaden your understanding of how Treasury supports the Society's long-term resilience and sustainability.
You could work in areas such as balance sheet modelling, recovery and resolution planning, sustainability, investor relations or credit ratings management. These teams help ensure Nationwide remains financially resilient, meets regulatory expectations and maintains the confidence of investors, regulators and other external stakeholders.
This placement combines technical analysis, governance, strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement, helping you develop the broader commercial perspective required in a modern Treasury career.
MARKETS, FUNDING & INVESTMENTS PLACEMENT (12 MONTHS, LONDON)
In the final year of the programme, you'll join one of our front-office trading teams specialising in Derivatives, Investments or Wholesale Funding.
This is where everything comes together.
You'll apply the technical, analytical and commercial skills you've developed throughout the programme to real Treasury decisions, helping Nationwide manage risk, invest liquidity and access wholesale financial markets.
Based in our London dealing room, you'll work in a fast-paced environment where market movements, economic events and global developments can influence decisions in real time. You'll develop expertise in financial markets, build relationships with external counterparties and gain first-hand experience of how Treasury supports Nationwide's financial strength.
Whether investing in bonds, raising wholesale funding or helping manage balance sheet risk, you'll be contributing to activities that have a direct impact on Nationwide's performance.
Alongside your placements, you'll follow a structured learning journey designed to build both technical Treasury expertise and core professional skills.
You'll work with experienced colleagues, build relationships across Treasury and gain exposure to a wide range of specialisms, helping you develop the knowledge, confidence and network needed for a successful career.
This isn't a programme spent watching from the sidelines. From day one, you'll contribute to meaningful work while receiving the support needed to learn and grow.
By the end of the programme, you'll have a unique end-to-end understanding of how data, risk management, financial resilience and financial markets come together to support one of the UK's largest financial institutions, providing a strong foundation for a future career in Treasury.

To succeed on our Treasury Development Programme, you'll need to show:
- Motivation to study towards professional finance qualifications.
- Curiosity and the ability to analyse data and information to problem solve, identify challenges and propose solutions.
- Strong organisational skills to plan and deliver work with attention to detail.
- Good time management and prioritisation skills for working in a fast-paced environment.
- You want to get involved in activities across the Finance department, such as working with our recognition teams or Network and Knowledge events.
- Two A Level qualifications (A*-E) and three GCSE’s at grades A-C/grade 9-4 (or equivalent) including Maths and English Language
- A high standard of numerical, written, and verbal communication skills and experience of using Excel
- Commercial awareness of Nationwide and the Financial Services industry.
