Music House Volunteer Opportunity: Finance Professional

Music House is looking for an experienced finance professional to help modernise our systems and reduce administration. You'll optimise QuickBooks, improve reporting and financial planning, and help us explore CRM solutions that support sustainable growth and greater community impact.

What Difference Will You Make?

The volunteer's contribution will play a significant role in helping Music House become more efficient, resilient and sustainable.

As a small charity and community organisation, we operate with limited resources and a lean team. A considerable amount of staff time is currently spent on manual administration and financial processes that could be streamlined through better systems and automation. By helping us improve the way we manage financial information, reporting and organisational data, the volunteer will enable us to work more effectively and focus more of our time on supporting the people and communities we serve.

  • Improved use of QuickBooks and the implementation of more efficient processes will provide greater visibility of our finances and strengthen decision-making at both operational and trustee level.
  • Better budgeting, forecasting and management reporting will support future planning, helping us identify opportunities for growth whilst maintaining strong financial controls.
  • The volunteer will also help us build systems that are fit for the future. Whether through enhanced use of existing software, CRM integration or process redesign, their expertise will help reduce duplication, improve data quality and create more joined-up ways of working across the organisation.
  • Most importantly, the impact of this work will extend well beyond the volunteer's involvement. The systems, processes and knowledge they help establish will create lasting benefits for the organisation, increasing our capacity, improving governance and helping us make the best possible use of our resources.
  • Ultimately, their contribution will help Music House continue to provide affordable spaces, creative opportunities and community activities that enrich the lives of musicians, artists, teachers and local residents across Leeds and beyond.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What Are We Looking For?

We are looking for a volunteer with experience in finance, accounting, financial systems or business process improvement who is keen to use their skills to support a growing community arts organisation.

You may have worked as a Finance Manager, Management Accountant, Financial Controller, Finance Director, CFO, Business Analyst, Systems Consultant or in a similar role.

We are particularly interested in volunteers who have:

  • Experience of financial management, accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and management reporting.
  • Experience improving financial processes and controls.
  • Experience of implementing or optimising financial systems, such as QuickBooks or similar accounting platforms.
  • An understanding of CRM systems and how they can support organisational efficiency.
  • Experience of process improvement, automation or digital transformation projects.
  • The ability to translate complex financial or technical concepts into practical solutions for non-financial colleagues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Collaborative and able to work with staff and trustees.
  • A good listener who takes time to understand organisational needs.
  • Practical and solutions-focused.
  • Able to balance strategic thinking with hands-on support.
  • Enthusiastic about helping charities and community organisations become more effective and sustainable.

Desirable but Not Essential

  • Experience working with charities, community organisations or the voluntary sector.
  • Knowledge of audit processes and financial governance.
  • Experience integrating finance systems with CRM platforms or other business applications.

We welcome applications from both currently practising professionals and retired individuals who would like to use their skills and experience to make a lasting difference to a community-focused organisation.

What Will You Be Doing?

We are seeking a volunteer with strong finance and systems experience to help us modernise and streamline our financial and administrative processes. We currently use QuickBooks for our accounting, but many of our day-to-day processes remain manual and time-consuming. As our organisation grows, we want to develop a more efficient and integrated approach that improves financial management, reduces administration and provides better information for decision-making.

Working closely with the Director and a Trustee, the volunteer will review our current financial systems and processes and provide practical recommendations for improvement. A key focus will be helping us make better use of QuickBooks and exploring whether it can be developed into a wider management tool, or integrated with a suitable CRM solution that supports both operational and financial needs.

The volunteer's responsibilities may include:

  • Reviewing our current finance and administration processes.
  • Identifying opportunities to automate tasks and reduce manual data entry.
  • Optimising our use of QuickBooks and improving financial workflows.
  • Advising on CRM solutions and system integrations.
  • Supporting the development of budgeting and forecasting tools.
  • Improving management reporting and financial dashboards.
  • Reviewing balance sheet reconciliation processes and financial controls.
  • Providing guidance on audit preparation and good financial governance.
  • Helping create practical, sustainable systems that staff and trustees can confidently use and maintain.

We are looking for someone with experience in finance, accounting, financial systems, business process improvement or digital transformation. Experience with QuickBooks would be particularly valuable, alongside knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, financial controls and audit support.

This role would suit someone who enjoys solving problems, improving systems and helping organisations become more efficient. We are open to new ideas and approaches and would welcome a volunteer who can bring both strategic thinking and practical experience to support our long-term development.
