Finance Director
£140,000–£150,000 | Central London | Four days in the office
We are partnering with a highly successful, privately owned healthcare business to appoint a commercially focused Finance Director.
The business is already well established and performing strongly, and this appointment is about building on that success. They are looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Finance Director who can work closely with the Managing Director and senior leadership team to drive the business through its next stage of growth and development.
This is a broad Finance Director role with responsibility for the overall finance function, but the emphasis is very much on commercial leadership. The successful individual will be expected to understand the key drivers of the business, provide insight into performance and opportunities, and use finance to support better decision-making across the organisation. Working closely with the Managing Director, the Finance Director will play an important role in shaping strategy and identifying opportunities to improve profitability, margins and overall business performance. They will take ownership of budgeting, forecasting and financial planning while ensuring the leadership team has clear, relevant and forward-looking information to support its decisions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Alongside the commercial responsibilities, the Finance Director will oversee the wider finance function, including management and statutory reporting, cash flow, working capital, controls, compliance and the development of the finance team. They will ensure the business has the financial infrastructure and processes required to support continued growth without losing the entrepreneurial and agile culture that has contributed to its success. The role will suit someone who enjoys working within an SME and is comfortable operating both strategically and hands-on. This is not a position for someone who wants to operate at arm’s length from the business; the Finance Director will be highly visible and work closely with the Managing Director, leadership team and wider organisation.
Candidates must have previous experience working within an SME and a proven track record of leading the finance function of a high-growth business. They should have first-hand experience of supporting a company through a significant period of growth, developing the finance function and introducing the processes, controls and commercial insight required as a business scales.

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant, ideally ACA, ACCA or CIMA, with previous experience as a Finance Director, Head of Finance or senior finance leader. They must be comfortable working closely with an MD, CEO, founder or owner within an entrepreneurial environment.
Experience within healthcare would be particularly relevant, although candidates from consumer, services or other commercially focused and operationally complex businesses will also be considered. More important is a strong commercial mindset, the ability to influence senior stakeholders and a track record of helping successful businesses improve, develop and grow.
The role is based in Central London and requires the successful candidate to work from the office four days per week.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an already successful business at an important stage in its development. The Finance Director will have genuine influence over the future direction of the company and play a key role in building on what has already been achieved.
