A broad FD role, based in Birmingham with responsibility for all EMEA operations of a multinational engineering group.

Our client is part of a global company. They are a market-leading international engineering and technology group with a strong presence across EMEA. As FD for Europe, and headquartered in Birmingham, you will oversee all EMEA operations.

Backed by a global parent group, the business is recognised for its engineering excellence, innovation, and customer focus. The organisation serves many of the world's best-known consumer brands. With a strong market position and as the business continues to evolve, they are seeking a Finance Director to join the Board and play a key role in shaping future success.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and serving as a key member of the Board, the Finance Director will act as both a strategic business partner and trusted advisor, providing commercial insight, financial leadership, and governance oversight across a complex international operation.

This is a broad finance leadership role that extends beyond traditional finance responsibilities, encompassing legal, compliance, governance, and risk management activities. The successful candidate will translate complex financial and commercial information into clear business insights, helping drive performance, strategic decision making and sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the annual budgeting process and long-range strategic plan
  • Driving financial and operational performance across teams, functions, and regions
  • Providing meaningful analysis and actionable insights to support decision making
  • Overseeing all financial reporting, statutory accounting, treasury, and tax activities
  • Leading year-end reporting and ensuring robust financial controls and compliance
  • Managing and developing a high-performing finance team alongside operational support functions
  • Acting as the Board lead for corporate governance, company secretarial matters, and ESG initiatives
  • Managing legal and commercial risk across the business, ensuring appropriate controls and governance frameworks are in place
  • Serving as a key partner to both operational and commercial leadership teams, balancing commercial ambition with sound risk management

Candidate Profile

For this Finance Director (FD) opportunity in Birmingham you will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and experienced Finance Director (FD). Previous Board experience is essential and at a mid-sized organisation (£100m +)

  • Must have experience within a manufacturing, engineering or technically complex commercial environment and international experience, with responsibility for diverse stakeholder groups across multiple geographies and cultures
  • Ideally, proven experience of operating as an FD to a region or material business unit of a Group and with experience of reporting into an overseas HQ. Group finance experience will be important including treasury and tax management
  • A track record of managing large finance teams and with additional experience in legal oversight, and risk management desirable
  • The role requires a strong relationship builder with personal credibility, and excellent communication and presentation skills
  • You must also have a good balance of strategic vision and hands on operating style and the strength of character to challenge whilst being able to do so in a collegiate and considered manner
  • A track record of improving business performance, driving cost optimisation, and supporting growth initiatives
  • Hybrid working will be considered, with a regular presence in Birmingham and with occasional overseas travel
