I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

who can demonstrate a strong track record across manufacturing finance, commercial finance, margin and profitability, operational performance, capital investment, working capital, governance, and the development of high-performing teams.

You will be ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified, commercially sharp, and equally comfortable in the Boardroom and within the manufacturing operation. Experience of complex supply chains, private label, branded products, major retailers, foodservice, ingredients, or contract manufacturing would be particularly relevant.

Why might you take the call? Because this is an opportunity to join a successful business before its next phase of growth, not after it. There is significant investment ahead, genuine Board-level influence, a broad executive remit, and the opportunity to help shape where the organization goes next. Importantly, there is also clear longer-term potential for broader enterprise leadership, including possible succession towards Managing Director. This could therefore be particularly compelling for an FD/CFO who has already proven themselves in Finance and is now asking: “What could I ultimately lead beyond it?”
