Blair West are delighted to be supporting Averroes Capital with the appointment of a Finance Director.
Averroes Capital is a UK-based private equity advisory firm specialising in advising and supporting high-potential, technology-enabled businesses and investment partners across Europe and the Middle East.
This will suit a proactive, commercially minded Finance Director, on a full-time basis, to own finance operations at Averroes Capital and, alongside this, to act as a hands-on support to one of the portfolio companies, working directly with its CEO and board.
This is a dual-facing, hands-on role: part fund/firm-level finance leadership, part operator-level financial control at portfolio company level. The successful candidate will be able to manage the firm’s reporting, investor relationships and compliance, and getting into the detail of a scaling portfolio business's model, board pack and cash runway.
The opportunity:
- Prepare monthly management accounts and reporting packs for internal and shareholder use.
- Review payroll, manage invoicing and expense processes, and oversee bank reconciliations.
- Lead the preparation of annual statutory accounts and corporation tax returns with external accountants.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting, including cash flow modelling and cost tracking.
- Handle all aspects of VAT compliance and submissions.
- Own and manage relationships with the firm's bankers, fund administrators, accountants, and auditors.
- Act as a key point of contact for shareholders and board members regarding financial updates, capital calls, and funding documentation.
- Liaise with legal, compliance, and regulatory bodies to ensure ongoing adherence to statutory and governance standards.
- Maintain accurate internal records of capital contributions, warehousing facility balances, and related drawdowns or repayments.
- Liaise with fund administrators to reconcile capital activity, investor transactions, and reporting timelines.
- Support investor reporting workflows, including preparing or coordinating routine investor communications and assisting with fund-related documentation.
- Produce the monthly management accounts pack, P&L, balance sheet, cash, and variance commentary against budget.
- Deliver the investor board pack monthly, to template, with clear, decision-useful commentary on key movements.
- Track performance against guardrails agreed with the investor.
- Act as a strategic sounding board to portfolio company management and the board as businesses scale, taking on an increasingly strategic remit over time.
- Cash flow planning with clear runway visibility
- Track spend against the agreed funding tranche(s).
- Monitor working capital
- Stand up and report the core SaaS metric set as the business matures
- Track Rule of 40 (growth plus profitability margin) against benchmark.
- Own or directly manage the R&D tax credit application process for portfolio companies where relevant.
- Oversee annual statutory account filing across the firm and portfolio companies (completed by external accountants).
- Prepare investor-ready data rooms.
- Review and quality-check external accountants' output.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
