Robert Half is partnering with a well-established and highly respected construction business to appoint a Finance Director.
This is a key board-level appointment within a growing, privately owned organisation that has built an outstanding reputation across the UK through its commitment to operational excellence, long-term client relationships, and successful project delivery. The successful candidate will be a commercially minded Finance Director who enjoys being close to the operation, influencing strategic decisions, and helping drive business performance. This role offers a genuine opportunity to shape the future direction of the business while leading a capable finance team and partnering closely with the Managing Director and senior leadership team.
The Opportunity
As Finance Director, you will take ownership of the finance function whilst acting as a trusted adviser to the Board. You will provide robust financial leadership, commercial insight, and strategic support to ensure the business continues to achieve its growth ambitions. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring someone who is equally comfortable in the boardroom, reviewing financial performance, as they are supporting operational teams, improving processes, and driving change across the organisation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
