Finance Director | Yorkshire | £Six-Figure Package
We’re working with a substantial, multi-site UK business to appoint a Finance Director. This isn’t an FD role for someone who wants to sit behind a desk at Head Office. The business is looking for a Finance Director who will get out into the operation, understand how it really works and build relationships with the people running it.
You’ll spend time across the business, getting close to customers, suppliers and operational teams and understanding where money is being made – and where it isn’t.
Working as a key member of the senior leadership team, your focus will include:
- Working capital & cash – improving credit control, cash collection and the management of significant stock holdings across the sites.
- Commercial performance – helping the business understand margins, challenging performance and ensuring it is generating the right returns from the stock it buys and sells.
- Operational partnering – working closely with operational leadership around stock, suppliers and performance across individual locations.
- Finance leadership – leading the Head Office finance team and ensuring the fundamentals of reporting, forecasting, controls and compliance are delivered to a high standard.
- M&A – supporting future acquisitions, particularly the integration of smaller, owner-managed businesses into the wider group.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We’re looking for a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with significant finance leadership experience in a multi-site environment. Experience of operating within a PE-backed business would also be complimentary but not essential.
The successful FD will be someone prepared to immerse themselves in the business. You will need to build credibility across the wider business and becoming a genuine partner to the commercial and operational teams.
You’ll need strong commercial instincts, resilience and gravitas, but without losing the willingness to roll your sleeves up and get into the detail. That closely reflects the leadership capabilities the business is looking for: commercial acumen, influence, change management and a genuinely hands-on approach.
