Location: Hereford Head office - (Would also consider their Southampton office)

Hays Senior Finance are delighted to be exclusively partnering with Ambrey Risk, a market-leading global maritime services business, to appoint an outstanding Finance Director at an exciting stage in the company's growth journey.

Ambrey is at the heart of a diverse and interdependent global maritime ecosystem, delivering intelligence, risk management, security, software and offshore support services to clients across the world. With annual recurring revenues exceeding £100m and operations spanning multiple international markets, the business is entering a critical phase of growth and value creation, with a targeted investment or liquidity event anticipated within the next 2-3 years.

Reporting directly into the executive leadership team, the Finance Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the organisation, providing strategic financial leadership whilst maintaining robust governance, control and operational excellence across the group.

The Opportunity

This is a broad and highly visible leadership role that offers the opportunity to influence business strategy, support transformational initiatives and help drive long-term shareholder value. You will act as a trusted partner to the CEO, COO and Chief Commercial Officer, providing commercial insight, strategic challenge and financial expertise to support key decision-making across the organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the executive team to deliver the group's strategic objectives and growth plans.
  • Support business integrations and transformation programmes.
  • Drive commercial awareness and financially informed decision-making across the organisation.

Financial Management & Control

  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning process across the group.
  • Development of FP&A reporting support the business with data to drive operational decision making.
  • Ensure robust financial control, reporting accuracy and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Monitor working capital performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide clear insight into business performance, risks and opportunities for the executive team and shareholders.

Treasury, Tax & Governance

  • Lead the group's treasury strategy, including banking relationships, funding, foreign exchange exposure and risk management.
  • Oversee group-wide financial governance, intercompany structures and reporting frameworks.
  • Work closely with tax advisors and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient tax structures and compliant transfer pricing arrangements.

Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Drive process improvement, standardisation and scalability across the finance function.
  • Build strong relationships across operational and commercial teams to ensure finance remains a valued business partner.

About You

We are seeking an ambitious and commercially focused finance leader who combines strategic thinking with a hands-on approach.

You will be:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
  • An experienced Finance Director, Group Financial Controller or senior finance leader with experience operating within a multi-entity, international environment.
  • Comfortable working in a high-growth, entrepreneurial and evolving business.
  • A natural leader with a track record of developing successful finance teams.
  • An excellent communicator, capable of influencing stakeholders at Board and executive level.
  • Experienced in supporting acquisitions, integrations and business transformation.
  • Experienced in treasury management, tax structuring and international financial operations.
