Job Purpose
BTIG EMEA is seeking a Financial Accountant, Vice President to join our London Finance team and take ownership of key close and control activities that underpin accurate financial and regulatory reporting. This hands-on role spans journal preparation, balance sheet substantiation, and maintenance of core accounting schedules, working closely with Operations, Treasury, Risk and Compliance to ensure high-quality outputs in a fast-paced, regulated environment. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting fundamentals with a controls mindset, is comfortable working to tight deadlines, and can partner proactively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely month-end and FCA reporting requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries (including accruals, prepaids, allocations, intercompany, revenue and expense) and support daily controls to maintain general ledger integrity.
- Own month-end/quarter-end close activities, including balance sheet substantiation and timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Maintain core accounting schedules (e.g. fixed assets, leases, accruals, broker clearing balances, commissions/fees, intercompany) and support timely sign-off balances.
- Support preparation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS and firm accounting policies.
- Assist with variance analysis vs. prior period/budget and provide clear commentary for management reporting.
- Assist with UK regulatory reporting deliverables, including FCA regulatory return submissions (MiFIDPRU and other relevant reports).
- Provide financial data and schedules supporting the firm’s ICARA process.
- Prepare audit-ready schedules and documentation and support external auditors for the annual statutory audit and, where applicable, CASS audit.
- Use the firm’s accounting system and operational platforms (OMS/EMS, clearing and settlement reports) to reconcile accounts and analyse large, high-volume datasets.
- Advanced Excel skills required; experience with Workday and Netsuite is desirable.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
