About The Role
Informal Queries
For informal queries about the role, please contact Rebekah Leadley (Head of Finance DST) at Rebekah.Leadley@warwick.ac.uk.
Reporting to and supporting the lead Finance Manager for the Faculty of Social Sciences, the successful candidate will work in a small team with an Assistant Management Accountant (AAT qualified) supporting the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Departmental Services team is primarily engaged in management accounting and Finance Business Partnering, and the successful candidate will have a portfolio of Departments which they are responsible for supporting directly. You will liaise directly with senior University management (including the Vice Provost/Chair of Faculty and Faculty Chief Operating Officer), Heads of Departments and other stakeholders and assist academic departments to deliver their financial and strategic objectives. Provision of financial advice and accurate and timely management information and analysis to aid planning, control and decision-making, specifically in the deployment of University resources and optimisation of income, is an essential part of this role.
The role works alongside the Finance Managers for the other Faculties, preparing quarterly forecasts and annually five-year plans for their Departmental portfolio, monitoring financial performance and explaining variances. The postholder acts as an advisor on financial matters for their Departmental portfolio, including discussing and influencing performance, preparing business cases for new activities, advising on compliance with Financial Regulations and disseminating financial management best practice.
About You
The successful candidate, who will come with an honours degree or equivalent, will draw on technical expertise gained in obtaining a professional accounting qualification. The role would suit someone who is around 5 years post-qualified and looking to expand their experience in business partnering. You should have broad grounding within a finance function (including a working knowledge of tax), be a good communicator and have experience of working with non-finance professionals. Management experience would be ideal but is not essential and appropriate training and support can be given.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

With the ability to address problems and identify solutions independently, the successful post holder will demonstrate the capability to undertake operational aspects of the role such as quarterly reporting, planning & forecasting, and the critical evaluation of new business opportunities. This will necessarily involve modelling & analysis skills using Excel, Power Query and Power BI, and an interest in using Traditional and Generative AI to streamline processes and develop the capabilities of the finance function would also be desirable. Candidates should evidence experience of management accounting using their up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and finance systems, and strong relationships with non-finance professionals.
