Finance Manager
Location: Aberdeen
Employment Type: Permanent, Staff
Role
The Finance Manager is responsible for leading the finance function, ensuring the delivery of accurate financial reporting, effective financial controls, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and regulatory compliance. The role supports the strategic objectives of the business by providing commercial insight and financial leadership across all divisions, including Cranes, Wind, Shipping, and Projects. The position also contributes to business growth, operational performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial performance reports.
- Produce accurate and timely financial analysis for senior leadership and board reporting.
- Monitor company financial performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with operational management.
- Develop and maintain financial KPIs to support business decision-making.
- Provide detailed variance analysis and recommendations to improve profitability.
Cashflow & Working Capital Management
- Manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity requirements.
- Oversee debtor, creditor, and working capital performance.
- Monitor aged debt and support collection strategies.
Financial Control & Compliance
- Maintain robust internal financial controls and governance processes.
- Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, statutory obligations, and company policies.
- Manage year-end accounts preparation and external audit requirements.
- Oversee VAT and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Support compliance with IR35, contractor governance, and other regulatory obligations where applicable.

Commercial Finance
- Provide financial input to major contracts, tenders, and business opportunities.
- Review project profitability and cost control.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost savings.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team.
- Manage performance, workload allocation, and development plans within the department.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning activities within the finance function.
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer service.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner with operational leaders across Cranes, Wind, Shipping, and Projects divisions.
- Present financial information to senior management and board meetings.
- Build effective relationships with external auditors and key suppliers.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders on financial and commercial matters.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement across financial processes and reporting systems.
- Support automation initiatives that enhance finance efficiency and data accuracy.
- Ensure integrity and security of financial data and records.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Timely completion of monthly management accounts.
- Cash flow and working capital performance.
- Budget accuracy and forecasting effectiveness.
- Reduction of aged debt.
- Audit compliance and control effectiveness.
- Finance team performance and development.
- Delivery of business improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
Requirements
- Qualified Accountant (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Significant finance management experience within a commercial environment.
- Strong financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting experience.
- Experience managing and developing finance teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Excel and financial systems proficiency.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
- Experience supporting multiple business units or divisions.
- Knowledge of project accounting and contract-based businesses.
- Experience of business acquisitions, integration projects, or growth-focused organizations.
