Finance Manager
Newbury | £40,000 – £55,000 | Permanent
Hybrid – 3 days office / 2 days home | 9.00am–5.30pm
Wade MacDonald are recruiting a Finance Manager to join a growing FMCG organisation based in Newbury.
This is a hands-on Finance Manager opportunity within an SME environment, offering considerably more than ownership of the monthly numbers. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will lead a small finance team, improve reporting and controls, and have the autonomy to identify better ways of working and put those ideas into practice. It will particularly suit someone who enjoys the pace and variety of an SME, where you can see the impact of your work and have a genuine voice in how the finance function develops.
About the Client
Our client is an established FMCG organisation with a long-standing presence in its market. With a flat organisational structure and collaborative culture, people have the opportunity to work closely with decision-makers rather than operating through multiple layers of management. There is a strong sense of belonging within the organisation, with individuals trusted to take ownership and contribute beyond the boundaries of their job description. For someone motivated by independence, visibility and the opportunity to make a tangible difference, the environment offers a refreshing alternative to a large corporate structure.
About the Job
Working closely with the Finance Director, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day finance function and the delivery of accurate, useful management information. Technology and reporting will be an important part of the position. You will need to be a confident Power BI user with the ability to create, maintain and develop dashboards and reporting, rather than simply working with existing outputs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About the Successful Applicant
You will be a qualified or strong part-qualified accountant with experience in an SME and FMCG, manufacturing, consumer goods or another product-led environment. Strong Power BI capability, including building and maintaining dashboards, is important, alongside advanced Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs and ideally macros. Sage 200 exposure and knowledge of stock control or product costing would be advantageous. You will be a self-starter with strong attention to detail, people-management skills and the confidence to implement new ideas.
What You Will Receive in Return
You will receive a salary of £40,000 – £55,000, working 9.00am–5.30pm, with a hybrid arrangement of three days in the Newbury office and two days working from home. Perhaps more importantly, this is an opportunity to join an SME where you can have genuine influence. The relatively flat structure means greater access to senior decision-makers, more independence and the opportunity to see the impact of the improvements you introduce. Rather than being one part of a large finance structure, you will become a visible member of the organisation, working within a close-knit culture where contribution is recognised and people are encouraged to take ownership.
