Finance Manager

North Birmingham | Manufacturing | Office Based | Up to £55k

OVERVIEW

AtkinsClarke are supporting an established British manufacturer with the appointment of a Finance Manager, based in North Birmingham. This is a broad, hands-on role for a genuine all-rounder – someone comfortable owning the numbers day to day, getting under the skin of manufacturing costs and margins, and picking up the HR and payroll responsibilities that come with running finance in a business of this size. With an ERP migration already underway, there’s a real opportunity to shape how the finance function works going forward.

COMPANY

Our client is a long-established UK manufacturer of premium products, operating as a c£3m turnover subsidiary of a larger international group. Serving customers in the UK and overseas, the business combines skilled craftsmanship with a strong focus on quality and long-term relationships. Being part of a wider group brings stability and support, while the UK business remains small enough that the Finance Manager sits close to everything and has a direct line into senior management.

OPPORTUNITY

Working closely with the UK leadership team and Group finance, the Finance Manager will run the finance function end to end, manage a Finance Assistant and act as the go-to person for financial insight across the business. Key responsibilities include:

  • Running the day-to-day finance function, from general ledger through to month-end close
  • Managing and supporting a Finance Assistant covering accounts payable and receivable
  • Producing monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis
  • Analysing manufacturing costs, stock valuation and margins to give the business clear, usable insight
  • Owning cash flow, working capital, banking and insurance
  • Leading year-end, external audit and all VAT compliance, including UK and German registrations
  • Playing a key role in the ERP migration while improving controls, processes and reporting
  • Overseeing HR administration – payroll inputs and validation as payroll moves to an outsourced provider, employment contracts and day-to-day people matters

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
