About the Company
This manufacturing business is a well-established, international manufacturing business easily accessible from North Manchester and Lancashire, supplying complex, technical products to blue-chip and niche customers across multiple sectors worldwide. With a long and successful history, the business has grown significantly and continues to invest heavily in its people, systems and manufacturing capability as it targets continued growth in turnover over the next two years across the group. The finance function sits at the centre of that growth story, and this Finance Manager role has been created to give it the leadership and structure it needs as the group becomes more complex.
The Finance Manager Job
This is a newly created Finance Manager job, reporting into a Financial Controller as part of the same restructure. As Finance Manager, you will take full ownership of the UK entity's management accounts and reporting, while also bringing together the group's other entities into a single consolidated position, working from a modern finance system that all entities report into. You will manage a small team of three direct reports, acting as a genuine mentor as the team develops, with both direct reports working towards full responsibility for two of the group's smaller international entities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Reporting is a genuine build project in this Finance Manager job. Beyond sales and margin reporting, formal management information is starting from a low base, so you will develop a proper MI pack, establish KPIs and throughput measures, and lead budgetary cost management alongside department heads and operations with a strong commercial focus. You will also support on several live finance projects as the business continues to invest in its systems, processes, and wider capital programme.
This Finance Manager job will grow in scope as the group grows, hence a genuine appetite for building processes from scratch, rather than simply maintaining an established function, matters as much as technical ability.
The Requirements
- You must be a qualified accountant, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or qualified by experience may be considered, with solid experience in a Finance Manager, senior Management Accountant or similar role.
- You will have a strong grounding in full month-end management accounts, ideally within a group of entities with proven experience managing or mentoring a team.
- You must be confident, strong and hands-on with Excel and systems, comfortable pulling together data from multiple sources.
- Finally, it is essential that you are comfortable operating in a fast-evolving environment, building processes and reporting from an early stage rather than simply maintaining what already exists.
- Experience in a manufacturing or stock-based environment is desirable, as is exposure to multi-currency reporting, international group consolidation, or a system implementation.
