This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and successful business based in Nelson. Operating for many years within the machinery sector, the company has built a strong reputation for delivering specialist equipment and services to customers across the UK and internationally.

Your new role

As Finance Manager, you will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, reporting directly to the senior leadership team and playing a key role in supporting business performance. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing monthly management accounts, balance sheets, and trial balances
  • Managing cash flow
  • Overseeing payroll, VAT returns, and pension submissions
  • Ensuring the smooth running of all transactional finance activities
  • Handling banking activities, foreign currency transactions, board reporting
  • Supporting the annual audit process

Working within a small and collaborative team, this is a broad, hands-on role that offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to contribute to both financial and operational decision-making across the business.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in a broad, hands-on finance position, ideally within an SME environment
  • Confidence in preparing management accounts, balance sheets, and cash flow forecasts
  • Experience overseeing transactional finance processes, payroll, and VAT returns
  • Experience using Sage accounting systems, particularly Sage 200, would be highly advantageous
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft 365 skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • A proactive approach, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
