Alexander Steele Recruitment Finance Manager Opportunity

Alexander Steele Recruitment are delighted to continue working with this well-established but growing manufacturing business to recruit a Finance Manager for its South London operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified and commercially minded finance professional to join a successful manufacturing business and take responsibility for its operational finance function. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will manage and develop the finance team while providing valuable financial insight and support to the wider leadership team.

About the Role and Key Accountabilities

  • Lead, support and develop the operational finance team, ensuring the accurate and timely completion of invoicing, credit control, purchase administration and banking activities.
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts and monthly cash-flow projections, highlighting any significant movements or risks to the Head of Finance.
  • Produce and present monthly performance reporting to the Managing Director and Head of Finance, providing clear commentary and commercial insight.
  • Take ownership of stock and cost accounting, including stocktakes, margin reconciliations, new product set-up and Bills of Materials.
  • Support operational and commercial managers with costing, margins, reporting and the development of robust business cases.
  • Maintain control of the balance sheet, ensuring all control accounts are regularly reviewed and reconciled.
  • Manage the year-end audit process, prepare draft statutory accounts and work closely with external auditors to resolve any queries.
  • Oversee the accuracy of financial information held within the ERP system, including accruals, prepayments and fixed assets.
  • Complete monthly and annual financial reporting in line with wider group deadlines and requirements.
  • Manage intercompany accounting and reconcile balances with finance teams across other businesses and international locations.
  • Support corporation tax activities, including preparation of the annual tax pack and liaison with external tax advisers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, automate processes, reduce costs and strengthen financial controls across the business.
  • Assist with treasury activities, including sterling and foreign currency balances, as well as information required for invoice-financing facilities.
  • Consolidate monthly payroll information and liaise with the external payroll provider to ensure an accurate and efficient process.
  • Work closely with the Head of Finance and leadership team to support the delivery of the wider financial strategy.

Candidate Requirements

  • Fully qualified accountant with an ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or an equivalent professional accreditation.
  • A minimum of three years’ post-qualified experience.
  • Strong stock and cost accounting experience gained within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience across budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and financial analysis.
  • Previous involvement in year-end audits and experience working with auditors and other professional advisers.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups and database connectivity.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to turn financial information into clear and practical business insight.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work closely with operational and senior leadership teams.
  • Previous experience managing and developing a finance team would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience within a group structure, including intercompany reporting and transactions, would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Sage and dashboard reporting tools such as Power BI would also be desirable.
