Job purpose
The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the charity's financial management, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting, compliance with charity and statutory requirements, and supporting the leadership team with financial planning and decision-making.
The role provides both strategic financial support and hands-on day-to-day financial management for the organisation.

At CoDa Dance Company we create productions that tour nationally in unconventional spaces and deliver specialist participation programmes – including Dance for Neurology, a rehabilitation programme delivered in hospitals for people living with profound Neurodisabilities.
Collaboration is central to our ethos: from the exceptional dance artists, set designers and composers we work with; to the Lived Experience Consultants whose experience informs our practice.
We became an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation in 2023, joining a cohort of arts organisations across England considered leaders in their area of specialism.
Location: Remote
Hours: 16 hours per month worked over 3.5 - 4 hours per week
Salary: £25-£35 ph depending on experience
Reports to: Artistic Director
Start date: Ideally Monday 2nd November 2026
Contract: Part-time contract or open to discussion about Freelance
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Maintain accurate financial records and accounting systems, including use of Xero.
- Manage the charity's bookkeeping and accounting processes.
- Monitor cash flow and financial performance.
- Ensure all income and expenditure are correctly recorded.
- Oversee bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage payroll processes and pension administration, liaising with external providers where required.
Budgeting and Reporting
- Prepare annual budgets in collaboration with the AD.
- Produce monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Monitor performance against budgets and investigate variances.
- Provide financial analysis and advice to support decision-making.
- Prepare financial information for Board and committee meetings.

Charity Compliance and Governance
- Ensure compliance with Charity Commission requirements and relevant legislation.
- Support the preparation and submission of statutory accounts and annual returns.
- Liaise with independent examiners.
- Maintain appropriate financial policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with payroll, pension, and other financial regulations.
Fund Accounting and Grant Reporting
- Monitor restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Support grant budget preparation and financial reporting to funders.
- Ensure grant income and expenditure are accurately tracked.
- Assist with funding applications by providing financial information and forecasts.
Financial Controls and Risk Management
- Maintain effective financial controls and processes.
- Identify and manage financial risks.
- Ensure appropriate authorisation procedures are followed.
- Support fraud prevention and financial governance arrangements.
Leadership and Support
- Provide financial guidance to the AD and trustees.
- Support staff with financial procedures and budget management.
- Contribute to organisational planning and strategic development.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- AAT qualified, qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), or equivalent relevant experience.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
- Experience working within the charity or not-for-profit sector.
- Knowledge of charity accounting requirements, including SORP.
- Experience of producing management accounts and financial reports.
- Experience of budget setting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Experience maintaining financial controls and procedures.
- Good understanding of accounting software, specifically Xero.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel at an intermediate to advanced level.
- Understanding of payroll and pension administration.
- Experience working independently and managing a varied workload.
