Citadel Source is delighted to partner with a growing organisation to support the recruitment of their new Finance Manager.

A little bit about our client… This business operates across multiple markets, delivering complex projects and supporting a wide range of operational and commercial activities. With continued evolution across systems, processes, and organisational structure, the company is entering a period of change that brings strong opportunities for development, exposure, and long-term progression. The environment is fast-moving, collaborative, and focused on improving financial capability and operational efficiency across the wider group.

The role The Finance Manager will take ownership of day-to-day financial operations within the UK finance function. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will lead a transactional finance team of three and manage the full month-end close, alongside responsibility for year-end audit preparation and statutory compliance. This is a broad, hands-on role covering management accounting, financial control, treasury support, covenant monitoring, and continuous improvement. You will also contribute to strategic finance initiatives, including process optimisation and the acceleration of the organisation’s technology roadmap. The position offers visibility, influence, and the opportunity to shape team performance and capability.

About you We’re seeking a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with 1–2 years’ post-qualified experience and a strong grounding in financial and management accounting. You will bring experience developing or mentoring junior staff and have a genuine interest in technology-enabled finance - ERP systems, automation, BI tools, and modern digital processes. You’ll be comfortable operating in both detailed and higher-level oversight, with strong organisational skills, sound judgement, and the ability to build effective relationships across the business. This role suits someone proactive, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement, with the confidence to lead, coach, and influence.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
