The Role

The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial accounting function and ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of month-end and year-end financial reporting. The role manages a team of three Financial Accountants and has responsibility for financial controls, statutory reporting, internal and external audits, and continuous improvement of finance processes.

The Finance Manager will work closely with the wider Finance team and key stakeholders across the business, providing financial expertise, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies, and supporting the delivery of an effective and efficient finance function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the month-end close process, ensuring reporting deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Review and approve journals, accruals, prepayments, provisions and other month-end accounting adjustments.
  • Oversee and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring outstanding items are investigated and resolved promptly.
  • Continuously review and improve month-end processes to increase efficiency and reduce reporting timelines.
  • Lead the year-end financial accounting process and coordinate the preparation of statutory accounts.
  • Manage and coordinate the Finance team's response to internal and external audit requirements.
  • Act as a key point of contact for auditors on financial accounting matters.
  • Manage, motivate and develop a team of three Financial Accountants.
  • Review the quality and accuracy of work produced by the team.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in a financial accounting role, preferably within a complex organisation.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting knowledge.
  • Proven experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Experience preparing or supporting the preparation of statutory accounts.
  • Experience managing internal and external audit processes.
  • Previous experience managing, developing and motivating a finance team.

  • Experience working within a multi-entity or complex finance environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Experience of process improvement, automation or finance transformation.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and external advisers.
