Some finance roles are difficult to make sound interesting.
This one isn’t.
We’re recruiting for a highly profitable, privately owned Nottingham business operating in a genuinely interesting specialist sector, with a number of different revenue streams and a strong track record of growth.
It’s a relatively small organisation, which is exactly what makes the role attractive. You won’t be one person in a finance team of 30. You’ll be close to the numbers, close to the Managing Director and close to the decisions.
The role
You’ll join as Finance Manager, working alongside the existing Finance Director, who is retiring at the end of Q1 2027, as part of a planned succession.
There will be a strong handover period, giving you time to understand the business properly before taking on more responsibility.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The role is a mix of hands-on finance and commercial partnering, including:
- Management accounts, budgeting and forecasting
- Cash flow and financial control
- Statutory reporting and audit
- Payroll and wider finance operations
- Company secretarial and governance responsibilities
- Commercial support to the Managing Director

There will also be exposure to wider areas such as acquisitions, shareholders and broader commercial decisions.
What we’re looking for
You must be fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
The ideal background would be someone who enjoys both sides of finance:
- Comfortable getting into the detail
- Strong on management accounting and financial control
- Commercial enough to partner an MD
- Happy working in a smaller business where finance touches almost everything
- Ambitious enough to want the top job eventually
You don’t need to have done every element of the role before. What matters more is having strong foundations, curiosity and the confidence to pick up new areas.
