Finance Manager
Lewis Pies Limited | Fforestfach, Swansea | On-Site
Reporting to: Finance Director
Lewis Pies are a family-owned company who have been making pastries, breads and cakes since 1936. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager to join our team at our Fforestfach site in Swansea.
This is an important role within the business, working alongside the Finance Director, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day finance function and ensuring accurate, timely and effective financial management across the company.
We are looking for an experienced finance professional who is organised, commercially aware and confident taking ownership of the finance function. You will need strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different areas of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and month-end journals.
- Preparing monthly management accounts, financial reports and meaningful commentary for the Finance Director and wider management team.
- Managing accruals, prepayments, VAT returns and other relevant tax and duty returns.
- Overseeing stock valuations and working closely with the Production team to ensure accurate financial information.
- Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, internal controls and company procedures.
- Overseeing cash handling, counting and reconciliations.
- Leading and supporting the finance team, ensuring consistent use of accounting systems and appropriate financial documentation.
- Investigating and resolving financial discrepancies and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial data.
- Working closely with the Finance Director and departments including Sales, Production, Vans Operations and Dispatch to provide financial information and support.
- Supporting the business with continuous improvement of financial processes, controls and systems.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Essential:
- Proven experience in a finance management, senior accounting or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting and month-end processes.
- Experience with management accounts and financial reporting.
- Experience with VAT and HMRC submissions.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Experience with accounting software and financial systems.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership.
- High levels of confidentiality and integrity.
Desirable:
- AAT qualified or equivalent finance qualification.
- ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualified would be advantageous.
- Experience working within a manufacturing or food manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Sage 200 or similar accounting systems.
- Experience managing or supervising a finance team.
- Experience with stock valuation, production costing and manufacturing accounts.
- Experience supporting business decision-making through financial analysis.
- Experience working closely with non-finance departments.
