Finance Manager

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Finance Manager to take ownership of a varied finance function within an established manufacturing organisation.

Position: Finance Manager
Salary: £40,000 – £43,000pa doe
Location: Northampton hybrid working, 2 days from home
Hours: Monday–Thursday 8.30am–5.30pm, Friday 8.30am–4.30pm
Benefits: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, pension and hybrid working

About the role

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager who enjoys being hands-on while also taking responsibility for the wider finance function.

Working closely with the Directors, you will take ownership of the accounts for five companies and oversee two part-time members of the finance team. You’ll ensure the numbers are accurate, deadlines are met and the Directors have clear financial information and insight to support business decisions.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing monthly management accounts across five companies.
  • Managing the month-end process, ensuring transactions are complete and accurate.
  • Preparing journals, accruals and prepayments.
  • Completing balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns.
  • Producing financial analysis and commentary for the Directors.
  • Preparing budgets, forecasts and cashflow information.
  • Monitoring performance against budget and investigating variances.
  • Overseeing accounts payable, receivable and credit control.
  • Supporting and overseeing two part-time finance team members.
  • Supporting year-end accounts and liaising with external accountants.
  • Reviewing financial processes and controls and identifying improvements.
  • Maintaining accurate financial information using Sage Line 50.

About you

We’re looking for someone who knows their way around a busy finance function and is equally comfortable producing management accounts and getting into the detail when needed.

You may be AAT qualified or Qualified by Experience (QBE), with strong practical accounting experience and a good understanding of management accounts, VAT, month-end processes, journals, accruals and prepayments.

You’ll be confident using Sage Line 50 and Excel, able to manage multiple priorities and comfortable turning financial information into clear, useful commentary for Directors.

Experience within manufacturing or a similar commercial environment would be particularly beneficial.
