Role Overview

The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day finance function, ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of financial reporting and management accounts. The role includes responsibility for cash flow management, ledger oversight, VAT compliance, and maintaining robust financial controls.

The role manages and develops the finance team, driving continuous improvement and efficiency across financial processes. Working closely with senior management and external stakeholders, the role supports strategic decision-making, ensures compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and contributes to the achievement of organisational objectives.

Please note: due to the nature of our business, this role is office based, 5 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for month-end processes and assisting in year-end.
  • Prepare and review monthly profit and loss statements and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Report management accounts, including posting accruals and prepayments.
  • Oversee Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger functions.
  • Manage and forecast cash flow to ensure financial stability.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations.
  • Produce timely and accurate financial reports and ad hoc reporting.
  • Analyse monthly sales figures against budget and forecasts.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
  • Lead and manage a finance team of two staff members, providing guidance and performance oversight.
  • Improve financial processes, procedures, and controls to enhance efficiency.
  • Oversee payment processes.
  • Monthly pension submission and HMRC reports.
  • Overseeing accounts email one day per week.

Skills

  • Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience.
  • Knowledge of month-end processes, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Experience managing cash flow, forecasting, and bank reconciliations.
  • Understanding of VAT compliance, HMRC reporting, and pension submissions.
  • Ability to analyse financial data and provide accurate management information.
  • Experience overseeing Sales and Purchase Ledger functions.
  • Proven team leadership and people management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to improve processes and implement effective financial controls.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
