IFRS16 Manager
Location: Reading
Working Pattern: Permanent | Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office
We are seeking an experienced IFRS16 Manager to take ownership of lease accounting for a large and complex property and infrastructure portfolio.
This is a key finance role, acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for IFRS16, with responsibility for the end-to-end lease accounting process, monthly reporting, technical accounting, controls, and external audit requirements. You will work closely with internal finance teams, external auditors, outsourced service providers, and commercial, legal, and property stakeholders to ensure IFRS16 accounting is accurate, compliant, and continuously improving.
The Role
As IFRS16 Manager, you will own the IFRS16 process and policy across a portfolio of 15,000+ sites, ensuring accurate and timely monthly lease accounting and reporting. You will be responsible for maintaining the lease accounting model, processing monthly data updates, posting journals, managing reconciliations and controls, and providing technical accounting expertise across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
IFRS16 Accounting, Data & Reporting
- Own the end-to-end IFRS16 accounting process and policy.
- Act as the subject matter expert for IFRS16, ensuring consistent application of accounting standards.
- Manage monthly updates to lease data and ensure all associated journals are accurately posted.
- Maintain and improve Excel-based lease accounting models and supporting controls.
- Manage accounting treatment for lease modifications and lease impairment assessments.
- Ensure the monthly IFRS16 close is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including deferred rent.

Technical Accounting & Audit
- Prepare technical accounting papers and position papers relating to lease accounting.
- Lead responses to external audit queries and coordinate supporting evidence and management responses.
- Ensure a robust control environment is maintained and proactively address potential audit issues.
- Monitor developments in IFRS and assess their impact on lease accounting policies and processes.
Stakeholder & Provider Management
- Act as the key IFRS16 contact for shareholder finance teams, external auditors, outsourced providers, and internal stakeholders.
- Work closely with outsourced providers to improve data quality, reporting visibility, and process efficiency.
- Support commercial, legal, and property teams with advice on lease structures and contractual changes.
- Assess the accounting implications of new site agreements and lease modifications.
- Provide clear and commercially focused advice to business stakeholders on IFRS16 consequences.

- Support wider finance transformation initiatives.
- Act as the finance SME for the implementation of a new IFRS16 lease accounting system, supporting design, testing, and deployment.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, data integrity, and reporting.
- Support ad-hoc finance projects and initiatives as required.
About You
We are looking for a technically strong and commercially minded qualified accountant who has demonstrable experience owning IFRS16 accounting and reporting within a complex organisation. You will ideally have:
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification.
- Proven experience owning IFRS16 reporting processes.
- Strong technical understanding of IFRS16 accounting, policy, and controls.
- Experience managing external audit reviews and responding to technical accounting queries.
- Experience working within a large, complex, or multi-site organisation.
- Strong Excel skills, including the ability to work with large datasets and complex financial models.
- Experience improving financial controls, processes, and reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver to tight deadlines.
- Experience working with outsourced finance/accounting providers would be advantageous.
