Finance Manager

Merseyside - Office-based

Up to £60,000

An established construction business is looking to appoint an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of its finance function.

Working closely with the Managing Director, you will provide financial oversight across the business, ensuring strong cash management, accurate reporting and effective financial controls. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is commercially minded and comfortable working independently.

Key Duties

  • Lead and manage the overall finance function
  • Prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasts, including short- and medium-term projections
  • Manage banking relationships, funding arrangements and finance facilities
  • Produce monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial analysis
  • Provide senior management with clear financial and commercial insight
  • Monitor project performance, margins, profitability and overheads
  • Oversee debtor and creditor management, supplier payments and customer collections
  • Ensure bank accounts and key balance sheet accounts are regularly reconciled
  • Oversee payroll and ensure accurate, timely processing
  • Manage VAT, CIS, PAYE and other financial compliance requirements
  • Review applications for payment, certificates, retentions and outstanding customer balances
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure the integrity of information held in Xero
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, systems and controls
  • Liaise with accountants, auditors, banks, funders and other professional advisers
  • Support the Managing Director and senior team with financial and commercial decisions

  • Previous experience as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or in a similar senior finance role
  • Strong management accounting, forecasting and cash-flow experience
  • Confident using Xero and Excel
  • Experience overseeing payroll and transactional finance
  • Commercially aware with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working independently and taking full ownership
