Finance Manager

Sector: Technology and IT Services
Location: Gloucestershire / 2-3 days a week onsite

About the Company

Our client provides Technology and Services to run, protect and grow their customers' businesses. They pride themselves on the quality of their people and the high level of service this enables them to deliver across a wide range of IT services and projects. Purpose of the Role

This is a full-service finance role with hands-on, end-to-end responsibility for the day-to-day finance function. Working closely with group accounting, the role owns everything from day-to-day accounting and transaction processing, through the monthly management accounts, to financial data analysis that helps the business make informed decisions.

The finance function runs on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, interfaced with the company's primary line-of-business applications. A core expectation of the role is to complete all month-end tasks within five business days and to provide accurate, timely reporting to group accounting, acting as the main point of contact for their reporting and Q&A.

Role Requirements

Day-to-Day Accounting

  • Maintaining day-to-day transactional processing in Business Central, including the sales ledger, purchase ledger, general ledger, bank postings and journals
  • Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, staff expenses and company card transactions accurately and on time
  • Completing daily bank reconciliations and managing cash, keeping cashflow records up to date
  • Running credit control and debt collection, and resolving customer and supplier queries promptly
  • Ensuring correct nominal coding, VAT treatment and timely, accurate data entry across all ledgers

Month-End and Management Accounts

  • Completing all month-end close tasks within five (5) business days
  • Preparing the monthly management accounts – profit and loss, balance sheet and cashflow – to agreed deadlines
  • Posting accruals, prepayments, deferred and accrued income, depreciation and recurring journals
  • Carrying out balance sheet reconciliations and keeping control accounts clean and fully reconciled
  • Reconciling revenue and invoicing between the line-of-business systems and Business Central
  • Producing variance analysis against budget and forecast, with clear and concise commentary

Systems, Data and Line-of-Business Integration

  • Operating Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as the core finance platform
  • Managing the interfaces between Business Central and the primary line-of-business applications
  • Ensuring data flows and integrations are complete, accurate and reconcile end to end
  • Maintaining the integrity of financial and billing data across all connected systems

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Analysing financial and operational data to provide insight that supports commercial decision-making
  • Building and maintaining reports, KPIs and dashboards
  • Providing accurate, timely financial information to budget holders and the management team
  • Identifying trends, risks and opportunities in the numbers and flagging them early

Group Accounting Interface

  • Submitting monthly reporting to group accounting in the required format and to the group timetable
  • Acting as the main point of contact for group accounting, handling reporting queries and month-end Q&A
  • Supporting group consolidation, intercompany reconciliations and periodic reporting
  • Ensuring local reporting aligns with group accounting policies and standards

Compliance, Controls and Year-End

  • Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns
  • Maintaining strong financial controls, processes and supporting documentation
  • Supporting the year-end statutory audit and reporting, working with group and external advisers

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the commercial pressures of a growing business

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • A recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or AAT) – qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience
  • Hands-on experience of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, or a comparable ERP or finance platform
  • Experience of delivering a monthly management accounts close to tight deadlines
  • Experience of working with integrated line-of-business systems and reconciling data between platforms
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including formulae and financial calculations
  • MSP experience a bonus
