About The Role
The Finance Manager – FP&A will be based in Basingstoke, UK and will be responsible for the end-to-end ownership and execution of key financial planning, forecasting and reporting processes across the Microbiology Division.
Reporting to the Director, FP&A, this role sits within a lean, high-performing FP&A team where each Finance Manager owns a defined area of the planning and reporting cycle. This is a hands-on role requiring a technically strong finance professional who can work independently, manage multiple priorities and consistently deliver accurate, high-quality financial information.
The successful candidate will partner closely with Commercial, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Functional Finance teams to ensure data integrity, deliver robust financial analysis and support business decision-making. The role requires significant day-to-day involvement in forecasting, month-end close, management reporting, financial modelling, SAP processing, variance analysis and continuous improvement of reporting processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced FP&A professional who enjoys combining technical finance expertise, process ownership and business partnering within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own assigned FP&A processes, ensuring accurate, timely and high-quality delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
- Own the monthly forecasting, annual budgeting and long-range planning activities for assigned functional areas.
- Prepare and analyse monthly and quarterly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow results, providing insightful commentary on business performance, key drivers, risks and opportunities.
- Perform detailed variance analysis against Forecast, Budget, Prior Year and Strategic Plan, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain robust financial models to support forecasting, scenario planning and business decision-making.
- Partner with Commercial, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Operations and SG&A Finance teams to ensure data integrity and accurate financial submissions.
- Coordinate the collection, validation and consolidation of financial information from multiple stakeholders across the business.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly business review materials and reporting packages for Divisional leadership.
- Perform month-end close activities, including financial analysis, reconciliations and validation of reported results.
- Support operating expenditure, headcount and manufacturing cost forecasting, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Act as a subject matter expert for Finance and Management Reporting systems, including Hyperion and SAP, supporting finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive improvements in financial reporting, automation, data quality and process efficiency through the effective use of Excel, Power BI, SQL and other analytical tools where appropriate.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
