Contract: Freelance

Fee: Hourly rate, to be agreed.
DAiSY is seeking an experienced freelance Bookkeeper / Finance Manager to oversee our financial records and support the effective management of our funding.
The role will involve managing multiple restricted and unrestricted funding streams through Xero, including grants from Arts Council England, The National Lottery Heritage Fund and other trusts and foundations. The successful candidate will ensure that expenditure is accurately allocated across different projects, budget headings and funding periods, enabling clear reporting to funders and DAiSY’s CIC Directors.
About DAiSY
DAiSY (Disability Arts in Surrey) is an umbrella organisation which promotes and celebrates the works of disabled artists and disability arts organisations in Surrey. The organisation strives to develop the South East as the lead region in the UK for d/Deaf, disabled and neurodiverse cultural activity, making Surrey a welcoming and accessible place for all artists to practice. DAISY works with artists and its member organisations to share skills and resources. We work with cultural partners across Surrey to put on exhibitions, create artworks and increase the awareness and status of Disability Arts.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using Xero.
- Process and reconcile income, expenditure, invoices and payments.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations.
- Track restricted and unrestricted income across multiple funding streams.
- Allocate expenditure accurately against individual projects, budget headings and funder categories.
- Maintain clear records and supporting evidence for grant-funded expenditure.
- Produce monthly project budget updates, cash-flow information and management reports.
- Monitor actual expenditure against approved budgets and identify potential underspends, overspends or inconsistencies.
- Prepare clear financial information for the Managing Director and CIC Directors.
- Support financial reporting and grant claims for funders, including Arts Council England and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
- Liaise with project managers, staff and external accountants as required.
- Help ensure that DAiSY’s financial systems and processes are clear, consistent and suitable for a growing organisation.
- Support year-end accounts preparation and provide information required by DAiSY’s accountant.

Essential experience and qualities
- Strong and confident working knowledge of Xero.
- Previous bookkeeping or financial management experience within the charity, not-for-profit and/or arts and cultural sector.
- Experience of managing multiple grants, restricted funds and project budgets.
- A clear understanding of the complexities of grant income and funder reporting requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical, well-organised approach.
- Ability to distinguish clearly between different funding pots, projects and expenditure categories.
- Confidence producing accessible and accurate monthly financial reports.
- Ability to work independently and meet reporting deadlines.
- A patient, supportive and straightforward communication style.
- Ability to explain financial information clearly to colleagues and Directors who do not have a finance background.
- Comfortable working remotely and communicating regularly with a small team.

Desirable experience
- Experience of financial reporting to Arts Council England and/or The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
- Experience working with a Charity, Community Interest Company or disability-led organisation.
- Understanding of access costs and access-related grant budgets.
- Experience supporting year-end accounts and Companies House reporting.
The role is expected to require approximately one day per month, although additional hours may occasionally be needed around funding bids and reporting deadlines and year-end accounts. We would ideally like this person to start before November 2026 with support from the previous post holder to explain our systems and operations.
